Engine ice threat
The issue of ice accreting in pipework (system) and subsequently being released to the engine has been highlighted as a potential hazard within the aerospace industry. Authorities require aircraft manufacturers to understand the mechanism and quantify the potential threat presented to the engine (and for engine manufacturers to show compliance with that threat).
Element assesses, tests and defines this potential threat.
Element Achievements with ice threat:
- Developed and supported certification strategy for the Airbus A350XWB Fuel System.
- Provided analysis and test management to define engine ice threat for Airbus A350XWB Fuel System.
- Supporting assessment of any potential impact upon engine ice threat due to use of new fuel additive.
- Contributes regularly to ice in fuel workshops with aircraft and engine manufacturers, and leading academic institutions.
